With marked declines in manufacturing, exports, and overall global commerce, the transportation and logistics network is being tested.
Air, trucking and rail cargo services are at the highest risk to suffer severe disruptions, as well as port congestions, as the COVID-19 panic expands and is likely to continue.
Flexport, who serves more than 10,000 clients and suppliers across the globe, is more exposed to being affected by the coronavirus outbreak, as it accounts for 52.2% of the company’s U.S. seaborne inbound handling from China. Both Flexport and DHL have warned of an increased rate of instability for airfreight, as well as marine shipping capacity cuts.
the automotive supply chains are identified as the most vulnerable due to the fact that they operate largely JIT production schedules. Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and parent company, Tata Motors, extended a shutdown of their unit plant at Changshu in China due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

A significant economic fallout of the novel virus is the resulting inefficiencies across the country’s already overburdened logistics landscape, which, according to India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF) employs more than 40 million people and contributes $200 billion plus to the economy. The vast segment, considered to be the lifeline of the country, holds critical importance as it connects various markets, suppliers and customers dotted across the country.

The outbreak of corona has a impact on logistics across the globe , the shipments are been getting delayed. organizations may be able to anticipate the impact on their business by using a combined set of tools. For example, U.S. companies that rely on foreign demand for their products also rely on foreign manufacturers, which supply the goods and services they need to conduct business.
It is affecting all the commodities ,not just one sector.

India’s total electronic imports account for 45% of China. Around one-third of machinery and almost two-fifth. For automotive parts and fertilisers China’s share in India’s import is more than 25%. Around 65 to 70% of active pharmaceutical ingredients and around 90% of certain mobile phones come from China to India.

Most passengers air flights are being stopped, removing significantly the cargo capacity on most of the power lanes. The US ban has stopped the movement of people, not goods. In all regions freight forwarding is still possible but with very limited connections.

Land transport is maintained, but subject to disruptions and slowdowns due to increased border control, sanitary measures.

With stamped decreases in assembling, fares, and by and large worldwide business, the transportation and coordinations organize is being tried. Ports/Logistics -
Despite having safeguards and safe house set up requests, port and terminal tasks have seen negligible interruptions, with influenced territories esteeming port activities as basic organizations. Be that as it may, blanked sailings are required to cause port interruptions in coming a long time as the deficiency of void holders accessible for US sends out develops. As the stock side of assembling improves, US shippers and exporters will in any case have to deal with the downstream consequences for inventory network suppliers (stevedores, drivers, sea bearer group)

Ports and shipping companies operate despite difficult conditions.containers are taken care of.

Most of the shipping lines are adding surcharges such as PSS but however still operating. Space and equipment remain very tight. All services are fully booked in March and already filling up in April. Equipment will start getting scarce, especially for inland pickups. Yet, some shipping lines announced improvement with regards to the availability of reefers containers.

The coronavirus outbreak is first and foremost a human tragedy, affecting hundreds of thousands of people. A highly fragmented and unorganised industry, India’s logistics sector is in disarray because of disruptions caused by the nationwide lockdown
The vast segment, considered to be the lifeline of the country, holds critical importance as it connects various markets, suppliers and customers dotted across the country.Citing operational constraints, country’s largest ecommerce marketplaces Flipkart and Amazon have suspended their logistics services for sellers on its platform. Also, according to the Retailers Association of India (RAI), the supply chain of about 25,000-30,000 supermarkets have so far been impacted due to the lockdown announced.

Logistics and transport services constitute an integral part of buyers’ supply chain. The continuity of operations for a majority of industries is heavily reliant on the service assurance provided by vendors in the logistics and transport industry in the US. Evidently, the blockade of geographical borders and clampdown orders imposed on all the transportation services to limit the impact of COVID 19 have restricted the scopes of service delivery in the logistics and transport industry.

Ports and shipping companies operate despite difficult conditions.containers are taken care of.

Industries and the economy in general are in a new territory, finding themselves more vulnerable to the risks of globalization and supply chain disruption.
The focus on Covid-19 has shifted the priorities for all businesses and individuals globally. While the impact of and the reaction to the virus on supply chains and logistics appear to be spreading across the globe, organizations may be able to anticipate the impact on their business.
As Covid-19 continues to impact not just steel, but all commodities, production of parts and delivery logistics, companies need to be able to pivot and make adjustments to their own production and business strategies.

As corona virus (COVID-19).The virus is likely to impact productivity on a group nd individual scale. Employers may need to adjust sales or bonus targets in some situations to account for unforeseen circumstances nd consult their sales plans to determine the parameters. Handling day-to-day productivity and the performance-related issue is tied to the outbreak in the current scenario.

Workers from small and medium enterprises are the worst-hit in India. Since some of them cannot work from home or utilize the remote working facility, the companies have waived those employees nd cut down their production. This way it’s having a huge impact on the production and performance of their businesses.

As a population of 1.3 billion stays indoors to fight the Covid-19 virus, India is finding it difficult to get a move on and questions are being asked about what the 21-day lockdown can do to the crucial logistics sector of the country.

The Covid-19 outbreak has made it more difficult to achieve the targets due to the challenges of land acquisition, grid unavailability, supply chain bottlenecks and a lack of project financing. Though India is self-sufficient in manufacturing wind components, projects scheduled to come online in Q2 2020 will be delayed due to a lag in engineering and construction activities. The country is currently in a 21-day lockdown and the situation is still not clear in terms of a complete recommencement of construction activities.

Maintaining supply chains is crucial in responding effectively to humanitarian crises. As the corona breakout took place it has affected every sector all over the country. And majorly logistics has been affecting the most. Due to lockdown announced by the government officials and limited movement of transportation facilities has majorly affected the logistics department.
Large eccomerce websites like Amazon, Flipkart and many other have put down their services because of the lockdown as the movement of any transportation is stopped may it be cargo , airports or trucks are been stopped. And talking about pharmacy industry it has been dependent china for Supply but due to covid-19 breakout , now India has to see the alternatives or produce at their own laboratories seeing the conditions Hence logistics has been affected vastly and only emergency services are been transported in most of the states of our country.

The coronavirus pandemic is threatening a logistical and transportation slowdown.
The challenge for logistics companies now is serving the maximum number of customers in a day. A route planner can be beneficial here as it helps plan well-optimized routes with accurate driving directions, while factoring in traffic conditions, weather forecasts and customers’ preferred time windows. logistics startups are faced with uncertainty over the impact of the coronavirus--they may see a temporary spike in demand as people stock up but it may be followed by a slowdown due to supply constraints.

The pandemic continues to expand. More than 175 countries and territories have reported cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). Case growth has accelerated to more than 735,000 cases and 35,000 deaths as of March 30. Some geographies have a handful of cases, others with early community transmission have a few hundred, and those with uncontrolled, widespread transmission have tens of thousands. Governments have launched unprecedented public-health and economic responses. The situation evolves by the day.

In this note, we offer some of our latest insights, starting with five likely epidemiologic swing factors that will largely determine the contours of the pandemic in the next year. We then summarize two new articles designed to help senior executives lead through the crisis. In “Beyond coronavirus: The path to the next normal,” we outline five time frames to help leaders organize their thinking and responses. And in “Safeguarding our lives and our livelihoods: The imperative of our time,” we explain how business and society can and must take on both spheres of action, right away. These and many more are available in our collection of coronavirus thinking. We conclude with a short list of the areas in which executives should be concentrating their thought and attention.

Cut in Air freight capacity- several air line companies have stopped their business all over the world. This directly impacts on exports and imports of the manufacturing businesses.

Coronavirus has posed tremendous global disruption in the end-to-end global supply chain. When we think about supply chain disruption, consider the products you use every day. Each product entails many elements before it reaches you: the raw material, the manufacturing, packaging, transportation and distribution. Each one takes a journey using ocean, rail, air and road before being made available to your store or doorstep. Imagine each of these steps having its own complex supply chain network connected globally.

Take toilet paper, for example. Demand has skyrocketed, but shelves are empty due to production capacity and lead times constraints. The raw material used to make the tissue paper you buy at the store is linked by a sophisticated network. The factory where it’s made might not have enough labor or truck drivers to get the raw material to the factory or product into warehouses, and from there onto shelves. This is what we mean when we say that the end-to-end global supply chain has been affected.

Corona outbreak was uncertain and it has heavily disrupted logistics. The lockdown has resulted in slowdown of logistics. After the lockdown the demand for cargo and shipping is going to increase. The demand for all different types of shipments is going to increase as prices for late shipments will be lowered but it will be not a good idea to extend or to late shipments so demand for train, air and ship cargos will be in demand.

Covid 19 outbreak is not only in India but at a global level ,Let me Talk about Businesses Not only Big Businesses, But Even The Small Business, The Business THAT were About To begin ,About to rise also have gone into losses..
So let's Talk Abput Logistics We Indians Highly import and Export Various Materials, Import- Export is Completely Stopped .

Government is allowing few ships,Transport through trucks but in an limited supply ,
What is to be noted is That Suppliers are facing lot of issues to meet thier future demand
But lockdown has to be followed to protect us against virus
So basic solutions that I would suggest are
3 days in a week we could allow truck to deliver the essentials and other required materials
3 days would be assigned to Ships
Trains have stopped so 1 day or at the most 12 hr facility would help in solving the future shortage issues pertaining to materials .
Some Countries who are slowly Recovering we can have import export with them once we see that our country is also recovering.
All this can be practiced with proper precautions both to the logistics team and the supplier and receiver
Maximum Transport has stopped but minimum can help us in meeting the future demands.

The covid 19 lockdown has impacted the logistics very badly because transportations have been stoped by all the means.

For any business inbound and outbound logistics are the primary activities.
As they have limited their functions it is shaking entire business and economy as well.
The complete stoppage of transportation from air,sea and land freight has harmed the logistics to its core.

To overcome the same they should have kept some goods vehicles running wherein to transport the non perishable goods which can be transported in the high temperature by take some safety measures for the drivers.
For Ex. If the goods train can transport the goods(wheat,ragi..etc) would be helpful to the business as well as farmers which would be dynamism in the economy as well.

if it continues further more than following are the problems the countries will face
* Necessary commodities which we are exporting from foreign countries will stop or the cost will shoot up.
* Most of the startups which were dependent on logistic will hit at great extend
* Countries who were supplying food grains to underdeveloped countries such as Africa and many more will not recieve further
* Medical or Clinic sector will hit
* Global comodity price will increase
* International Branded product price will increase
* Around 450 Million people working in Supply chain will either loose job or the income will reduce thus poverty issue.
* Countries which depend on Tourism and Manufacturing sector will be in loss
* There will major supply chain disruption
* Nearly 75% of US business have experienced supply chain disruption
* European countries were earning more from Cruise ship liners which also will stod or less opportunity to start
* Demand for the product will increase but there will be less supply of product due to Global supply chain issues.
* Considering Domestic supply HUL is suffering a losses as the products are still stranded in the warehouses and if expires it is loss for the company as most of the state have sealed the borders.

The Central Government has lifted the ban on movement of goods i.e. all kinds of goods, essential and non-essential, however the actual movement of non-essential goods has not yet started due to:

a) The law enforcement agency i.e. the police, are under State Government control and they have not yet implemented the Central Government orders at the ground level, possibly to ensure that movement of all goods vehicles on the road should not go against 'Social Distancing' which has been the primary objective of the 'Lock Down'.

Due to the Lock Down situation, some of the drivers have migrated back to their hometowns. Even if the State police permit movement of goods on the road, there could be shortage of drivers. This situation is likely to continue till 14th of April which could further extend until the end of this month.

Domestic transport is expected to normalize over the next few weeks.

As of today the Ports & CFSs are working with limited staff, the custom clearance activity also happening, however problem persists of the cargo reaching the CFSs/ports or being evacuated from there due to above narrated issues at the ground level.

Whilst the ports and port based CFSs are functioning, the ICDs in the hinterlands have not assumed operations yet, we hope that they will start functioning in the next few days.

We still have new cases of Corona infection emerging every day so it's unlikely that the situation may change dramatically overnight, however we expect some incremental changes as the day's progress.

Trucking:

Notification issued by the government as on 29th March, allowed non-essential items also be moved however due to lack of drivers the services are impacted but it should get resolved in 2 to 3 days

As a population of 1.3 billion stays indoors to fight the Covid-19 virus, India is finding it difficult to get a move on and questions are being asked about what the 21-day lockdown can do to the crucial logistics sector of the country.

In the wake of the growing crisis, it was decided that this critical sector should be allowed to function, especially when carrying essential commodities. However, in the sixth day of the lockdown, the wheels are coming off.
Citing operational constraints, country’s largest ecommerce marketplaces Flipkart and Amazon have suspended their logistics services for sellers on its platform. Also, according to the Retailers Association of India (RAI), the supply chain of about 25,000-30,000 supermarkets have so far been impacted due to the lockdown announced.

According to Pranshu Kacholia, VP Business, ClickPost, data between March 10 to 20 shows that compared to the average for last month, the outbreak and the subsequent lockdown across states resulted in stuck shipments increasing by 9%, order delays were up by 21%, and delivery percentage has seen a clear decline of 9%. What is interesting is that this data pertains to the period before the nationwide lockdown started on March 25, which means these numbers would be way worse.
According to the representative of the logistics platform, in Pune, there are 31 pin codes that have been blocked by most of the logistics companies. “In Kerala and Maharashtra, we are witnessing fulfillment percentage to be reduced by around 5-10%,” Kacholia highlights, adding with lots of rumours around, either the ground staff is no longer active, or customers themselves are not accepting shipments, scared these might be contaminated.

The prices of diesel and petrol are going up under the government's plan to shore up revenues in these hard pressed times. Thanks to the lockdown, footfalls across cities will go down. The sales inventory cost will go up, so all companies will have to look at newer methodologies to dispose of their inventories.

Across the country, the lockdown has resulted in labour shortages, which in turn has added to the limited availability of transportation facilities. “The delayed deliveries are likely to disrupt the businesses that operate on “just in time or limited inventory” basis
The complete lockdown of other businesses and supporting services, has also aggravated the situation. Due to complete shutdown of public transport facilities, workers required for handling and transportation of essential commodities and supplies, now need to commute to their workplace on foot. For those living in the margins in the informal sector, the same is very exhausting, leading to lower productivity.

TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS:
As on 1st April'2020, the countrywide lockdown which began on 25th March'20 continues until 14th' April'20.

Operational impact:

Trucking:
Notification issued by the government as on 29th March, allowed non-essential items also be moved however due to lack of drivers the services are impacted negatively.

The projects/infrastructure sector noted the sharpest dip in the month-on-month talent demand followed by petrochemicals/oil and gas, export/import/merchandising and logistics & warehousing sectors that also registered a decline in the talent demand.

“The world, especially China, the south-east Asia region, Italy and Iran, has been dealing with the impact of Coronavirus since December 2019. Accordingly, the sectors related to foreign trade, exchange, import and travel are experiencing a slowdown, which is now reflecting in their talent demand too. In the long term, their business output and profits too would show this impact,” said Sanjay Goyal, Business Head, TimesJobs and TechGig. “For February 2020, the M-o-M talent demand is muted but the Y-o-Y talent demand was up. For now, we should wait and watch, and hope that the situation becomes better from here on."

Most high-volume sectors, including retail, FMCG, BFSI and manufacturing and engineering registered a drop-in talent demand in Feb 2020 v/s Jan 2020 comparison.

The Coronavirus has impaired the ability to manage day-to-day service delivery for certain clients or at certain sites and result in, among other things, losses of revenue and inadvertent breaches of client contracts if a group of employees who serve the same customers was unable to work at the same time.

There are several factors that Covid-19 has made the industry disabled with its attack.

Most of the comments have covered the impact of COVID 19 on logistics, but bringing in light the adaptability used by some of the businesses at present:

1) Zomato: they have updated their app in some of the cities were instead of delivering food orders, they are delivering essential items as well as per listed under the WHO list.

2) DHL have began logistics of the most necessary items to be delivered via special cargos within 24hrs service but cutting down on other cargos.
